Heart – Soul – Brain

Heart

From the heart flows the ”wellsprings of life,” according to the Bible.  Because of this, we believe addressing the matters of the heart is essential.  Talk therapy is our way to engage your heart.

The way we see it around here, counseling from a Christian world view is a process in which the counselor and the client walk together towards the full, free, and meaningful life that God offers through the person of Jesus Christ.

The primary goals are 1) to “reframe” uncomfortable, distressing or perplexing situations into opportunities for healing, growth, change and restoration 2) give some real, practical, doable steps to take and 3) orient people towards a much larger story that is unfolding alongside their own.

As Christian counselors, we believe our faith guides us in the counseling process with each person we see. Please know, however, that we work with people from all backgrounds, including religious and non-religious belief systems.

We do not seek to impose our beliefs upon others, but we do recognize that our beliefs impact and shape our work with clients.

Soul

Your soul is the eternal part of you.  God created us to be eternal beings. Spiritual direction is our way to engage your soul. Spiritual direction assumes that Love is at work in every area of our lives: our relationships, work, leisure, play and quiet. We welcome doubt, frustration, and pain as well as certainty, joy, and healing. In this practice of being present, the client is invited to bring all parts of themselves, understanding that by God’s design, it all belongs.

Ultimately, it is our goal to see our clients living out balanced and healthy lives –spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Whether you are seeking individual, couples, marriage, teen, or family counseling, you will find that your counselor is sympathetic to the role faith plays in your life.

Brain

Much of what brings people into counseling can be explored, understood, reinterpreted, treated and healed through simply talking about it.  Sometimes a significant portion of a client’s distress is happening at the level of the brain.   We want to aim at the brain by utilizing evidenced-based interventions. These might include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness-based modalities.
